Ezakia shares his story: Becoming a Centre Referee
I first started as an Assistant Referee in 2020 with the help of Pushing Barriers. I quickly felt like I would like to be a high-level Referee as I enjoyed doing it. After that I had to do some research of how to become a better Referee. I spent most of my time watching many hours of videos of high-level Referees.
When I felt ready, I did my Referee registration with Football Qld, then later I did a Referee course which takes couple of days to complete. Finally, I had to attend my final game training course at Lions FC.
Then I received my first year Referee pack which includes Referee essentials.
Now, I am a certified Referee either FQ and FB in the middle of the field or on field sideline. Being a Referee has taught me self-confidence and self belief with decisions we make as Referees during the game because sometimes people don’t understand what you’re trying to do for them. But you have to believe yourself as Referee and be confident your decisions with Assistant Referees.
At the moment I’ve found it easy to be a Referee. It is easy and fun at the same time.
My goal is to make it to the FIFA Referee level as I’ve been very inspired by many FIFA Referees in Brisbane.
Regards,
Ezakia
